the coronavirus is still growing even now,
researchers believe that a certain type of this virus is dangerous for children.
Several variants of SARS-CoV-2 are circulating worldwide. In the United Kingdom, a new variant of SARS-CoV-2 (known as 20I/501Y.V1, VOC 202012/01, or B.1.1.7) has emerged with a large number of mutations.
This variant has detected in many countries in the world, including the United States.
In the first month of 2021, UK scientists showed evidence suggesting that the B.1.1.7 variant may be a more increased risk of death compared to other variants. Furthermore, studies will confirm this view if is correct or no.
For that, Scientists are working to learn more about these variants to better understand their ease of transmission and the effectiveness of vaccines currently licensed against them.
The highly contagious strain of COVID-19 known as B.1.1.7 is now in all 50 states – and data suggest it may be affecting children more than people realize.
Be-sides, Michael Osterholm, director of the University of Minnesota’s Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy, recently told Boston 25 News that B.1.1.7 has made him rethink his position on reopening schools for in-person learning.
“This is a totally different virus in the sense of what it does epidemiologically,”
he said. “I think the school openings today will greatly improve the transmission of B.1.1.7 in our communities.
and I predict that in a few weeks, we’ll be back on this issue, unfortunately, after substantial transmission.”
Other data suggest that the variant is more likely to infect children
As well as, In Italy, 10% of the village of Corzano tested positive for COVID-19 on February 3 – and 60% of them were infants and primary school-aged children, who then passed the virus on to adults.
A research paper published in the journal Science also found that children are more likely to be infected with B.1.1.7 than other variants of concern.
For that, we must ensure that we protect our families, especially our children, during this time.
